East Side’s New Knitting Room!
By Tempe Coffey and Gigi Matteo, 7th Grade News
Knitting is a new studio run by Maureen Cooke. Maureen will teach you how to knit even if you have never knit before. You will learn how to make many things including hats, scarves, tank tops, and bunnies by using yarn and knitting needles.
Knitting has a very supportive community, here are some students giving their opinion on knitting. Isla O'Flynn says “I like how kitting is very calm, peaceful and relaxing. My favorite project is the tank top I am currently making.” Many other students agree with Isla. Ellie Flaum said that knitting is “Calming, relaxing, and fun.” and Tenzin Demaling said the class is “Calming and makes you feel accomplished when you finish a project. Maureen is a really patient and fun teacher.” Also, in the New York Times, an article on the impact of knitting explains that, “the rewards go well beyond replacing stress and anxiety with the satisfaction of creation.”
Some knitting students are starting to make a business out of knitting. Many knitting students are knitting bunnies to sell. This is being coordinated by the knitting teacher Maureen for students to sell at the East Side art show and the Gala. Maureen also runs a knitting group after school on Mondays that is open for students and parents. Do you want to join Knitting next year?
